Peruvian mango exports have increased by 73% so far in this campaign

Peru has exported 71,000 tons of mango so far in this campaign, i.e. 73% more than the 41,000 tons it exported by the same date of the previous season.

The country expects to export 200,000 tons or more by this season, which ends in March. However, the sector’s income would be affected by the high cost of maritime freight.

“Exports have increased because of a mango ripening issue coupled with the rush that exporters have to export as much product as they can because there are no ships,” stated Juan Carlos Rivera, the manager of the Peruvian Association of Mango Exporters (APEM).

“The price of maritime freight has risen by up to 80%. It costs more to send the mangoes to their destination than in any previous year. This affects the exporters and producers’ bottom line,” Rivera stated.
