Companies dedicated to mango and avocado shipments have experienced the greatest increase
According to data from the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), in 2021 the companies that requested certificates for the first time to start agricultural shipments increased by 11% over the previous year, increasing to a total of 1,766.
According to the data, avocado and mango exporting companies have experienced the biggest growth. According to Carolina Ramirez, the director of economic studies at the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (Midagri), in the last three years, the number of companies exporting avocado has increased by 39, and now amount to 79 regular avocado exporters (35,000 agricultural units). There are also 49 new mango exporting companies since 2018.
Currently, 25 companies export blueberries, the fruit that leads the non-traditional Peruvian agro-export basket. 17 of these companies started exporting this product in the last three years. Peru has 74 companies that export grapes.
Mario Ocharán, the director of export promotion at PromPerú, stated – within the framework of the Agroindustry and Regional Development Seminar, organized by Comex Peru – that there are 5,700 sporadic agricultural exporters, who require better training and empowerment to be sustainable over time.
